Formula 1 fans have spoken, and Max Verstappen has been crowned the Driver of the Day for the 2024 Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco.
The Red Bull driver put in a dominant performance, securing pole position and leading every lap of the race to secure a comfortable victory. It was his second win of the season, following his triumph in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
Verstappen's victory was also the first time a Dutch driver has won the Monaco Grand Prix. He now has three race wins at the iconic circuit, moving him up to third in the all-time list.
Charles Leclerc, who started from second on the grid, finished in second place. The Ferrari driver had a strong race but was unable to match Verstappen's pace. Carlos Sainz, in the other Ferrari, completed the podium.
Lewis Hamilton, who was hoping to extend his record of Monaco Grand Prix victories, had a disappointing race. The Mercedes driver struggled for pace all weekend and was only able to finish in fifth place.
With his victory in Monaco, Verstappen has extended his lead in the driver's championship. He now has 100 points, 15 clear of George Russell in second. Leclerc is a further 10 points behind in third.
The Formula 1 season continues next weekend with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Verstappen will be hoping to continue his strong start to the season and further extend his lead in the championship.
